Gaiden means anecdotes?

I hope you are having a great year so far.
Some of you sent messages and asked me in the channel about the translation of the word 外伝 gaiden, and they were confused about the monochrome covers in Lost Canvas Gaiden 1 and 2.
The word gaiden can mean a spin-off, a side story or an anecdote.
Usually in animation series or manga the word gaiden refers to a story outside the main one, which is why is translated as a spin-off. This particular Lost Canvas Gaiden chooses the word Anecdote instead of spin off. Sounds better for me, and you?
